Rely on safety when it comes to fire protection

Specialist Article

The saying "safety first" is certainly very important in many areas of life. Everyone is talking about different topics: financial, private, professional. One aspect that concerns us all is fire protection. This level of safety in the event of a fire is particularly high in public buildings such as hospitals, care facilities or daycare centers.

This also includes the solar system on the roof: more and more rooftop systems require a higher CPR rating (Construction Product Regulations, EN50757) in order to comply with the European Directive EU305/2011. Solar cables are available in various designs and CPR ratings. Most suppliers offer solar cables with Eca and Dca ratings. However, this is too low for public buildings, where the highest known CPR rating is required: B2ca. Our HIKRA SOL B2ca solar cable meets exactly these requirements!

Background: The European Construction Products Regulation

Since June 10, 2016, all cables and lines installed in a building are subject to the European Construction Products Regulation, or CPR for short. Depending on the fire behavior of these components, they are classified into European fire classes, from low safety requirements and fire class Eca, to very high safety requirements and classification B2ca. The cable industry recommends the use of cables and lines depending on the safety requirements of the building.

At the top: HIKRA SOL B2ca

Our HIKRA SOL B2ca solar cable is assigned the highest fire class B2ca. For you, that means no risks and the highest level of safety that a cable can offer. In the event of a fire, that means no smoke development (s1), no burning drops/drops (d0), low acidity and low conductivity (a1). Thanks to the particularly high-quality insulating materials used in our HIKRA SOL B2ca solar cable, the expected service life is at least 25 years. No expensive replacement measures are necessary, you reduce system failures and thus secure your system yield.

Don't take any risks when it comes to fire protection and rely on the maximum safety of the HIKRA SOL B2ca.

Safe, reliable, convincing.

Time is money – this old saying is especially true when installing solar power plants. Cabling is a critical cost factor that is often underestimated. But this is precisely where there is significant potential for savings: up to 20% of the total costs can be saved by using pre-assembled cable harnesses. How is this possible?

The requirements for solar cables in desert regions are extreme: temperatures of over 60°C, intense UV radiation, sandstorms and strong temperature fluctuations between day and night place the highest demands on the materials used. In our laboratory studies, we have investigated how these extreme conditions affect the long-term durability of solar cables and which technical solutions offer optimum protection.

Discussions about efficient solar power plants often focus on modules and inverters. However, one often overlooked factor plays a crucial role in determining the performance and durability of the entire system: the quality and design of the cabling. Especially in large-scale projects, custom cable solutions can make all the difference.
